STEMroller: smashing stereotypes

STEMroller events disrupt stereotypes surrounding STEM professionals within a neglected space in science communication; sports hall. Roller derby inspired STEMroller, both the do-it-yourself culture and creating for women genderqueer people to be themselves. Over 100 female non-binary volunteered put this event together students aged 11–19. includes networking with from over 30 science, technology engineering mathematics industries, watching roller trying it out — albeit socks not on wheels. uses pool of engaged volunteers create unique memorable event. Feedback after was hugely positive.

We give a new characterization of smashing subcategories in a compactly generated triangulated category and prove a modiied version of Ravenel's telescope conjecture in this setting. Our results apply in particular to the stable homotopy category.
